The name of the firm and its olive oil refers to the family castle, nestled on a hillside in the township of Canena (Jaén). The company is firmly committed to sustainable development: it generates photovoltaic energy on site, it uses pruning waste biomass as ecologically sound, non-polluting fuel and its entire premises have a plant cover that mitigates soil erosion and preserves indigenous vegetation.

Castillo de Canena is member of the EVA (Extra Virgin Alliance), a non-profit trade association representing producers of genuine extra virgin olive oil from around the world. The organization has its own quality seal. Castillo de Canena also belongs to the Association of Grandes Pagos del Olivar, uniting the best Spanish extra virgin olive oil producers.
