Rio Largo extra virgin olive oil is made in the sunny, South-African coastal province of West-Kaap. The olive oil is pressed from a mix of Frantoio, Leccino, Coratina and Mission olives. These olives are grown with love and care at the orchards of the family business. Thanks to its refined and balanced flavor, the Rio Largo has received prestigious awards multiple times over, including at the leading Flos Olei.

The sunny West-Kaap is especially suitable for growing olives. The olives of Rio Largo are grown on the sloping hills of Breede River Valley. This region has been known for its high-quality wines for some time, but it is now being discovered by olive oil lovers as well. And for good reason, because the region produces top-quality olives.

The olive orchards of the Rio Largo were built on sandy soil. The olive trees are placed close by the Breederivier (Large River), allowing the trees to soak up the water during the long, hot and sunny summers. The olive oil owes its name to this river, Rio Largo means ‘large river’ in Portuguese. At night, a southeastern breeze helps protect the olive trees from insects and diseases.
